The proprietary blend in new Cold-EEZE Immune Support Complex 10 includes:
Himalayan goji
-Known to protect cells from oxidative damage and supports immune function, while promoting the growth of probiotics - the healthy bacteria found in our gastrointestinal system. Himalayan goji also contains unique polysaccharides that defend the body from pathogens, pollutants and free radicals.
Eleuthero root -Related to ginseng, Eleuthero is known to stimulate the activity of the immune system, including the B and T cells that attack bacteria and infection. "Eleuthero root is an adaptogen- an herb that balances the body. Use of Eleuthero dates back 2,000 years and makes the immune system work better under stress so that you stay healthier and resist infections," adds Suzy Cohen, R.Ph., author of the new book, The 24-Hour Pharmacist (HarperCollins, 2007) and Consultant Pharmacist for Cold-EEZE. It is also known to boost concentration, memory, color perception and physical endurance.
Panax ginseng
– Helps a person cope with stress, and allows the body to better resist infection while promoting energy, increasing blood supply, improving circulation, boosting sex drive and promoting strength and stamina. Panax ginseng also in known to revitalize and aid in the recovery from weakness after illness.
Hawthorn leaf -Rich in flavonoids thought to open the blood vessels, allowing oxygen-rich blood to get to the heart. In Germany, Hawthorn is commonly used to lower blood pressure, normalize heart rhythm and improve atherosclerosis. Because this powerful heart-tonic also improves circulation, it assists the body in removing toxins and stimulates the immune system to ward off infection.
Vitamin A (1667 IU) -An antioxidant that also helps regulate the immune system by supporting development of white blood cells, it increases the production and activity of antibodies. Vitamin A is found in dark green and bright orange vegetables and fruits such as spinach, sweet potatoes, carrots, cantaloupe and apricots.
Vitamin C (250 mg) -A major antioxidant that strengthens blood vessels and is vital for the maintenance and growth of body tissues. Vitamin C has also been shown in many studies to be helpful in reducing the duration and severity of cold symptoms such as sneezing, coughing and sniffling, and also increases the production of white blood cells. The human body does not naturally produce vitamin C, so we must obtain this vital nutrient through diet, especially citrus fruits or from supplementation.
Vitamin E (50 IU) -A potent antioxidant that supplies oxygen to the body for more endurance, it's said to protect tissues from damage by environmental pollutants. Vitamin E enhances immunity and protects the cardiovascular system. Foods rich in vitamin E include many vegetable oils, wheat germ, sunflower seeds, almonds, hazelnuts, walnuts, peanut butter, avocados and sweet potatoes.
Vitamin B6 (2.5 mg) -An "anti-stress" vitamin, vitamin B6 is believed to enhance the activity of the immune system and improve the body's ability to withstand stressful conditions. This nutrient is needed to help make serotonin, one of the brain's major chemicals needed for a happy mood and healthy immune system. It's found in chicken, turkey, bananas, avocados, potatoes, nuts and wheat germ.
Vitamin B12 (12.5 mcg) -Needed for building proteins, red blood cells and healthy function of nerve tissue, vitamin B12 is an essential water soluble vitamin commonly found in a variety of foods such as fish, shellfish, eggs, meats and dairy products. It's central to immune processes because it governs cell division and growth. Without adequate B12, white blood cells can't mature and multiply to fight off infection.
Zinc Citrate (7.5 mg) -Important for the growth, development and health of body tissues, zinc citrate can be found in dairy products, beans and lentils, yeast, nuts, seeds and whole grain cereals, as well as in lozenge form or as a supplement. "Zinc is a mineral, but also a powerful antioxidant that shortens misery time and eases cold symptoms," says Cohen.
